If I recall correctly, the intent for Type 5 horizontal irregularities is to properly account for elements that are acting as the LRFS in both axis or are non-parallel. Offset T cantilevers (10ft cantilever in one direction and 5ft cantilever in the other direction) certainly have torsional irregularities, but would they implicitly have non-parallel irregularities due to supporting loading in all directions.

Type 5 is for non parallel system. If both legs of the T are in the same orthogonal axes as the other elements of your lateral system I don't think you have triggered type 5 irregularity. However, ASCE7-16 Section 12.5.4 Requires that any elements that have loading due to earthquakes from each orthogonal direction are subject to the requirements of 12.5.3.

So if your in SDC D or above, the T shaped element would indeed have loading from X and Y and have the same requirements as a type 5 irregularity with regards to 12.5.3.
