Offshore Wind Turbines & onshore power supply in Parallel. 1

I have just joined a new project and need some guidance.

I have 33kv AC 50hz 3 phase sub sea feeder supply cable 25km from shore base sub station feeding a common 33kv switchboard with no bus coupler on an oil rig.

Also connecting to this same switchboad is two 5MW wind turbines via one 33KV sub sea cable. I note on the schematics there is no syncronization facilities or relays and remember no bus coupler anyway?

Can anyone give some assistance on this. I am sure its something to do with the asynchronous induction motor on the wind turbines.?? maybe not?

When the 33kV breaker feeding the wind turbines is open, the wind turbines would be off, so there is no synchronising issue. This breaker would be closed first, energising the turbine transformers, auxiliaries and site supplies. The wind turbines are then run up to within 1 or 2% of their synchronous speed using the kinetic energy of the wind. If they are basic fixed speed turbines a soft start arrangement is used when the turbine circuit breaker closes onto the grid to minimise the fluxing surge. The closure of the turbine circuit breaker which makes the parallel with the mains is managed by the turbine control system.
