RE an oil burner issue.
I FINALLY solved it after many years of trouble. It was a mfg defect that lasted 20 years.
The clue was, it got worse and started tripping out without any electrical or weather related help.
I then tested the HV xfmr by drawing an arc. It didn't look very good. The second time I tested it, it look great.
BAD XFMR.
The previous weather related trips were apparently caused by an electrical surge while the burner was running that caused the xfmr to break down, killing the spark and tripping the control. This xfmr was defective from the get-go, but because of the intermittent nature, no one, including me, could figure it out. When the defect got bad enough to trigger without surges, it became testable.
