We are currently running 18g mill gal parts on a Trumpf 5000R and having issues with the waviness that is present in the part.
Specifically the issue is present in a checkerboard pattern we have created for maximum airflow. We run 5 10x70mm punches in one orientation and then 5 punches of the same size at a 90° angle. We have about 2mm of material between each punch. This pattern occupies about 1 square foot. The end result is that our checkboard pattern is very wavy and we're not sure why. We are using a whisper tool and have tried using a presser foot and different tool sequencing but haven't had much improvement.
I do not believe this is caused by residual stresses or the profile of the tool (whisper); the reason being that we have consistently run the pattern over a much larger area on 16g material with no waviness in the final part.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
