Why is it that the condensate produced by oil free compressors (water injected, screw) is acidic. I have been told about this many times in the past, but have never had the reasons why explained. I understand the location of the compressor is important to air quality, and condensate pH, with respect to air intake quality. How aggresive is the condensate, will nylon 6/6 components be ok at elevated temperatures (50 deg C)?

the most likely reason would be that when drying the air not only the water is condensed but that also components from the compressed air are solubilized in the condensate. depending on the air quality and the various pollutants therein this may cause an acidic reaction.
