Old ASTM material designations 1

Can anyone help me correlate old ASTM material designations which were in use in the early 1940's, such as ASTM A-181, Class 1, A-70, and Firebox steel to current ASTM material designations? Please reply. Thanks, Tom

You might be interested in this web site that contains a list of withdrawn ASTM Specifications. You can go back and locate the ASTM Spec for firebox quality steel. The ASTM A-181 is still valid.

For steels that were supplied under withdrawn ASTM specifications, in some cases there is no equivalent material substitution. Instead, upgraded materials have taken their place. As steel-making technology progressed over time, ASTM standards were revised or withdrawn.

For the firebox quality steel, I can tell you that the substitute used today is ASME SA 515 Grade 70.
