old b/w Dilbert format ??? 3

Hi folks,

as of November 4th YAHOO has stopped posting Dilberts in the old black and white format. Does anybody know where I can still find my favorite daily cartoon in black and white? The color is disturbing.

Any help appreciated.

There were so many times I thought Dilbert was working in the office next to mine.

That's chunking a LOT of PAPER!! I recommend downloading IrfanView:

http://www.irfanview.net/

and copying the strip from the Dilbert site and pasting into IrfanView and converting to grayscale. That'll save about 2/3 ream of paper per year, assuming you leave Sunday strips alone.

If you really want to get fancy, after grayscale conversion, copy into PhotoEditor, and mess with the gamma, contrast, and brightness settingsuntil you get the desired look.

Nice. One of my past co-workers spent a good many hours on the company printer plastering his office in black & white Dilbert. A memo was issued shortly after about cartoons and personal effects in the office but atleast he wasn't using the plotter...

The big problem is that the original B/W Dilberts were straight pen/ink line drawings with no background shading. The gray-scaled colorized Dilberts result in a gray-scale image with shaded background, not a line drawing image.

OK, so here's a procedure that'll get you within 90% of the original line drawing format. Copy the strip, which is back in Yahoo, but still colorized, into Microsoft Photoeditor, right click Properties, change the type to gray scale, open Balance, and set brightness to 70, or so. This should result in something that looks pretty close the original Dilberts.

Hire an assistant to photocopy the strip in black & white.

THAT you could do with PhotoEditor as well, but all the colored backgrounds, desks, etc., wind up as shades of gray, rather than white, as in the original strip.
