The Search Engine is in maintenance. I'm sorry if this topic has been already explored.

I'd like to know if you know any free/shareware/open source software to calculate MAWP on Boilers and Pressure Vessels.
For now, I only know CodeCalc and PVElite (and they are quite expensive).

Thanks for the help
Daniel

I have an Excel spreadsheet that calcs MAWP according to ASME VIII. The spreadsheet determines the MAWP determined by calculating the actual thickness less the corrosion allowance, in accordance with ASME SEC VIII D1, Paragraph UG-98.

It's actually designed to calculate WT & weight, OD, and ID, but I can back into it to get MAWP.

It took a little time to put together, but it was free (free is a relative term).

danielmoura,

There is NO free software that will do a complete MAWP calculation for a vessel, PERIOD. Any free vessel software is usually crappy, because Engineering is never free. As I recall, you might be able to "rent" Compress from the Vendor to use, so this might be cheaper solution for you. You are making money from engineering vessels, so just add the rental cost to your charge out rate.

You can actually do all the MAWP calculations by hand and then set it up in an Excel spreadsheet so you can iterate and use it again the future. Is not that hard really. Note that your MAWP calculations need to consider your nozzle reinforcements.

Ok everybody, thanks for the help.
The Excel spreadsheets are interesting for a quick consulting. But I've already talked with my boss and we decided to install PVElite here. He wants more trustable results.
But I'm impressed with the quality of the answers. It's a really good forum with great people on it.
Thanks again
Daniel
