I am using 2010 version of solid works. In attempting to open an assembly from a co-worker using 2011 version I am unable to open.
The error message says I cannot open because of a "future version". Is there a way around this? Thanks in advance

The easiest way is for them to save the file as a parasolid file. Then you can open that.

Exporting to a Parasolid makes it a dumb solid. So there is no history in the feature tree. So you won't be able to make any changes to the parts in the assembly, plus all your mates in the assembly will be lost.

SW is not backwards compatiable, so your best solution is for either your Coworker to not move to the latest version or you need to move up to SW2011. But neither of you can work in different MAJOR versions. You can work in different Service packs, in the same COMMON MAJOR version.
