I had another CAD software* where I could save a session, in which case when I opened that session again all the files and drawing I had open are opened up again with the windows the same and the same ones on top etc.

For example, when you finish for the day, a break, or to reboot for some reason, or your network manager wants everyone off the system - you could save that session. Then come back to your pc and with one click pick up where you left off with all the same files open.

Is there anything similar avialable in solidworks?

*ptc prodesktop (originally "designwave").

There is an option in (tools) general preferences tab, whether to open the last used document(s) at start up. The default setting is "never". It will not automatically start SW once the system has been shut down/restarted, though, but that can be set up as well in windows.

That's a great tip. I always forget where I was last night, but I digress...
