Question for someone with experience working between SW and Inventor. A customer sent me an Inventor part file and when I try to open it in SW2005, the following shows up in the error file:

SolidWorks Corporation - INVENTOR Processor Error Log
______________________________________________________

INVENTOR Post Processor
___________________

INVENTOR File Name: C:\....\Flange.ipt

ACIS error message:
operation unsuccessful

Error: No solid data in file.
INVENTOR-in did not complete successfully.
Context: Record ending on line number 1
OR one of its fields.

Anyone have this problem? Could there be a problem with the file itself?

Thanks,

Matt

This isn't something I'm familiar with, but it sounds like there is an error in the file--perhaps it's not a solid volume, but my guess is that there are some holes along the seams of the surfaces--surfaces intersect or have gaps.

Perhaps you can have the file re-exported with different export settings or into a different format and try to import it again.

Reality is no respecter of good intentions.

I agree. Have Inventor export as IGES, STP, etc. Something SW can import.

MattP ... Yes the Inventor file could be corrupt ... after all it is an AutoDesk product. [lol]

However, if it isn't, SW should be able to open an "ipt" file.
Is the Inventor file of a version which SW is able to open? If it's the very latest Inventor version, SW may not be programmed for that.
Have you experimented with the SW "Open" options for "ipt" files?

[cheers]

I have just learned that the Inventor file in question was of Version 9.0. Is this the newest release?

We've had the best success by exporting data out of Inventor in the .sat file format.
