Hi everyone!
I just got some drawings emailed. They all have a cad extension (example.cad). I can't open them with autocad. Can anyone help me open them?
Thanks!

Might be a GenericCAD file. I think they used .CAD extensions.

Try changing the extension to DXF and see if ACAD will open it. Or are you saying that AutoCAD gave you a message that it couldn't open it?

I tried to open with following extensions:
.cad: cannot find specified file..
.dwg: drawing file not valid
.dxf: invalid dxf.. drawing discarded

Ok, i'm gonna try thalon's tip...

...or it's a "Softdesk Drafix CAD File". Maybe so. can open it with Autosketch?

Or You mail back and ask for a *.dxf,...?

Ok, it looks like this is some kind of file generated by an ECAD software. Not a good ol' dwg file..
I'm gonna forward this mail to our friends at the Instrumentation and Programming department.. They'll know what to do!

Try to rename the files with new extension .dwg.

Is it a fire sprinkler drawing by chance? One of the new fire sprinkler programs has a .cad extension and can't be opened in AutoCAD, but can be exported to DWG format.

The client sent me fis files in dxf format...
Those are just mechanical drawings..
