Hello,
Does anyone know the precautions that we should take in consideration if we want to make large openings in a load bearing CMU wall ?
According to IRC OR IBC CODES
Or Any suggestion to make these openings safely ??
WALL TYPE: CMU WALL 21FT HEIGHT * 80 FT WIDTH
OPENINGS: 5 ENTERANCES, EACH ONE IS 11*11 FT

If this wall is a shear wall, this is a significant ask. You're essentially severing 70% of the shear capacity of the wall, and now turning it into a segmental wall.

There's also concerns about whether the foundation stuff is adequate for changing from a relatively uniform load to discrete point loads.

In fact, I really doubt this will work. Assuming equally spaced, you're left with 4 feet of wall between each opening. I can't imagine that the original wall would be reinforced appropriately for the out of plane wind loads that will end up being applied to them, not even accounting for the shear wall action.
