I have a 10" opening in a 32" flat cover (with hub) and want to cofirm the cover thickess is adequate. I have tried two methods yeilding quite different resuts.

1) Finding the required cover thickness per UG-34 and the required reinforcement per UG-39.

2) Analyze the cover and opening as an Appendix 2 flange.

Any suggestions?

xema77, I think your 1) is the preferred approach, although you might take a look at Apx 14.

Depending on your geometry, an Apx 2 reverse flange might be applicable, but pay attention to the various requirements.

Are you applying a bolting moment to the cover?

Regards,

Mike
