The main drawback of the ball valve - the high torque on a rotating shaft(stem).
There are ball valves with rising stem, for example, the "Orbit". Designed for use in the abrasive environments at temperatures up to 430 C. Before turning the ball is removed from the seat. In this case, the torque on the shaft and the wear of the rubbing surfaces of the ball and seat must be minimized.
Some point to rapid wear of the spindle, the friction surfaces of the ball and seat (tightness loss) due to a great effort on the contact surfaces, what require frequent repair.
Maybe someone will share the experience of operation of such ball valves.
