Folks,

Could anyone recommend some practical books on optomechanical design? I’m mostly a circuit and software designer. I have done a moderate amount of general mechanical design too. For my current project, I need to make a relatively small optical measurement system, and I have a principal design for it. But in this design all component (lenses, filters, mirrors) are “floating in the air”. I need to make mechanical mounting hardware that will actually hold them. Is there a good book that provides reference designs for lens, filter, mirror holders, etc?

Any references, suggestion, insight are appreciated!

"Handbook of Optomechanical Engineering" by Aness Ahmad is a good reference and is readily available.

reconvolution,

Look up Yoder. He writes books on Opto-mechanical design.

S P I E course notes by Dan Vukobratovich is also a very good source for such information. ( or the course itself)

Writings by S. T Smith and D.G. Chetwynd could also be usefull

Not sure what the mirror will be doing but check out These bearings are used for a wide variety of applications mirror mounting being one of them.

Flex pivots are essentially constrained spring, so no friction or stiction, but does have forces driving it back to null. They're most often used for limited angular travel bearings, or as part of a resonant scanner.
