I have a section view of a model in UG drafting but the orientation of the section view is not what I had intended for. Is there a functionality in UG NX 7.o Drafting mode which will allow me to change the orientation of the object shown in the section view. Thanks to all your advice!

If you use...

Insert -> View -> Pictorial Section View...

...you will have several options for defining the final orientation of the section view. However, I'm not aware of anything that can be done to change the orientation of an existing section view.

Thanks John.

If I use pictorial section view would it give me the same detail as using the section view option?

I think that would be great if I can orient the view of a section view using pictorial section instead if it gives the same sectioned detail.

Yes, the section detail should be the same, just that you can inherit the orientation from an existing view, such as an Isometric or Trimetric view.

And that would also mean that I can change the orientation of the section detail after I have made a section view from the base part using pictorial view if I am understanding it correctly.

Sorry, once a section view has been placed on a drawing there is no way that I'm aware of to modify its orientation. You can move it around, but you can't do much else.

But if I were to use pictorial section view I could pick an orientation for which the section detail is to be made and then only placed on the drawing sheet.

Yes, but once placed, the orientation is fixed and it will remain so until it's deleted and recreated.

You can edit the angular orientation once the section view is placed by editing the view style --> angle.

Yes ewh is right. The cut plane definition is unaffected but the view itself may be rotated normal to the page. This is supported by any number of drafting standards usually with a note underneath the view below the section (and scale) label/s.

Thanks EWH, your solution worked for us.

You're welcome.
hudson has a valid point about adding a note under the rotated view defining the change in orientation. I believe this is covered in ASME Y14.3M.

Hey ewh have a star to show that the value of getting the question right should never be underestimated.
