Orthographic view samples/books 1

Hi,

I am looking for orthographic views or any reference books with 2d drawing of models to practise modeling and assembling in SolidWorks.
I did go thru the SW tutorials and it is limited.

Please post the links or the names of books

I just did a google books search for "mechanical drafting" and came up with several hits. Most of these books will contain beautifully drawn isometrics that are fully dimensioned. The purpose was for the students to generate the orthographic views to scale. I think you will be hard pressed to find much in the form of 2D drawings to create models from. But are you trying to practice your blueprint reading skills or your modeling skills. I think the fully dimensioned isometrics will work well for you.

"Technical Drawing, Seventh Edition" by Giesecke-Mitchell-Spencer-Hill-Dygdon. This may or may not be where some of the SW certification drawings come from...

designer22, you should be able to find any number of engineering graphics textbooks at a decent used bookstore. I got one recently for $5.

Don't worry about recent editions. The basics ain't changed in a hundred years or more...

Many towns and schools have a building called "The Library" where you can get technical drafting books for free for a limited time.

If you want to practice modeling, grab something off your desk or from the kitchen and a caliper and model it. It doesn't have to be precise in size. Try modeling a telephone handset or water bottle or a stapler. See if you can model it in a logical order, using the fewest features, but don't sacrafice changability to do it all in one feature.

If you are looking at learning SolidWorks in the context of drafting, there is one book I know that covers the fundementals. SolidWorks: No Experience Required (plenty of used copies on Amazon for good price). In goes into the practical isde drafting in SolidWorks on a fairly simple model. Good for beginners.
