you normally need an indicating control valve for the riser

does not have to be osy

You would have two OS&Y gate valve and in between them you would have a back flow preventer, at least in the USA.

I was of the opinion that the EPA did not want potential water supply contamination and therefore requiring all communities to have backflow preventers at least on new installations.

There are quite a few in this area that do not require a double check assembly. These AHJ's just require a single check on the riser or on the incoming fire line.

It surprised me as well when I moved to this area many years ago.

hi Guys!

zicoo000 , As per NFPA-13 8.16.1.1.1.1, each sprinkler system shall be provided with listed indicating valve in an accessible location, so located as to control all automatic sources of water supply. Further, not necessarily you need a tamper switch but you must satisfy one of the requirement with reagrds to supervision. go through NFAP-13 8.16.1.1.2.

PS. NFPA-13 2010 ed.

hope it helps,
