OSNAP Selecting dimension entities

Anyone know how to restore the ability to osnap select dimension entity elements such as midpoint, endpoint, etc?
Sometimes in some drawings, I run into difficulty doing this. I'm looking for the variable to control this. Apparently its being transparently changed. If I want to draw a line from the "endpoint" of an arrowhead, or the "midpoint" of an extension line, sometimes those elements just won't respond.
Any suggestions?
Thanks-

Hi cfee,

I think that the system variable that you are asking about is "OSMODE". It controls which snap points to jump to. If you study the way Autocad has created this variable, you'll find that they are additive... meaning that an osmode of 0 is off (no snaps at all), osmode of 1 = endpoint, osmode of 2 = midpoint, osmode of 3 = (1+2) endpoint & midpoint, and so on. One quick way to figure out which number is correct for the snaps that you want is to use the F3 dialog box and choose the ones that you want. Close the dialog box and then type OSMODE on the command line. The default number is the number that gives you all the snaps that you just selected. Also, while you are drawing, you can toggle your osnaps on and off by using the F8 button. This will turn them off and then turn on the ones that you had set before they were turned off.

Hope this helps,
Paul

Hi,

Paul, are You sure with the F8 button, I think You meant F3?

Hi cfee,
By chance are you using AutoCAD Mechanical? If so, you will need to change the power snap filter for dimensions off.

Paul- Yes I'm using OSNAP.

Exit- I'll check it out.

Borgunit- No. I'm using ACAD-2002. However, your point is an interesting one. I posted this question before while at an assignment where I WAS using ACAD-Mech'l, and your suggestion back then (the same as today's) worked fine. Is there an equiv. f/ ACAD-2002?
Thanks all!

I checked out the osnap thread, but no it doesn't apply because I don't have any troubles managing my running osnaps against a particular osnap I might want with a particular command. I just make sure my preferences(options) dialog has "keyboard entry except scripts" (under the User Preferences tab) selected, and then either tab-cycle or input a particular osnap when I want it. Otherwise, I keep a running-osnap running at all times, and set my 3rd button to pop-0 (the old pop-0 default).
No, what I've encountered here, is that in some drawings I can't osnap select a point on a dimension, no matter what osnap MODE I'm attempting (endpoint, midpoint...). I verified that I was in the proper UCS because I'm aware of that effect, but this is different. As its a selectable variable in Mech'l D-T, leads me to hope there's an available control in native r-2002, as well.
Thanks all-

Hi C.,

it’s possible, that the problems are caused by MDT. Many applicationens are causing errors. I don’t know MDT, so I can’t help…

(Do You know, that Fee is the german word for fairy)

I kind of wonder if it is a
resolution problem rather than
osnap problem. I think if you
have a grid setting on with too
wide a setting, it would result
in what you are describing.

Just a check.. Is the object you are trying to snap to a dimension or does it just look like one (i.e. Proxy object or anonymous block maybe)?
