Hello, everyone,

I am working on a fire alarm system that protects a building and a long corridor. The building and corridor are 20m apart. The fire alarm panel is located in the building. We have to run twisted SLC wires, notifications appliances circuits wires and optical fiber cables in the outdoorcable tray which is exposed to weather. 208V Power cables are also put in the cable tray.

What type of cable shouldI use for these circuits? Shielded , unshielded, Teck cable, metallic conduits or non metallic conduits?

Can you help me out of this?

Thanks,

Paulpower

What's the occupancy and area of the building?
Is the building protected by an automatic sprinkler system?
Is the corridor an exterior sidewalk with a canopy?
Is the project in the US?

Hi Stookeyfpe,

The small building is a separate indoor unit substation. It is not protected by automatic sprinkler system. The corridor is totally enclosed as an indoor sturcture and it is protected by an automatic sprinkler system. The project is in Canada.

The fire detection and signaling system would not be required in the US because the corridor is sprinklered. In the US, detection may or may not be required.

If the substation was under the authority of an electric utility, the fire alarm would not be required. If the building was sprinklered, and sprinklers were eliminated because of the electrical equipment, smoke detection would be required.

not a electric expert, but if exposed to weather would at least require listed for wet conditions, and more than likely in conduit.

Wiring shall be a listed waterproof underground fire alarm wire, and shall be placed in conduit.
