What would be the acceptable surface roughness for machined end and thread on a tie rod end for passenger vehicle? I have not measured it, but the surface for lock nut face is grooved approx 0.2 mm depth and has surface cracks 0.5 to 1 mm long. The internal threads show radial surface cracks. It looks like the machining was done at too high a feed rate just before chipping. My concern would be crack propagation.
