Hi:

I have recently switched from NEi Nastran to NX Nastran and my work is often with composites. Both use the FEMAP pre and post processor. NEi used to publish some of their output results column descriptions in the release guides but I haven't found the equivalent yet for NX, it might be with the webkey help area? In particular I used to use the output vector 6103 "COMP MAX FAILURE INDEX" for the overall failure index of the layup for a shell element. NX offers the output vector 6060 "Laminate Max Failure Index". Are these output vectors equivalent? The descriptions are similar but different.

Hi,

It should be the same results depending on what you've defined as a failure criteria (Hill, Hoffman...)

You can refers to the laminate chapter to learn more on how Failure Indice is calculated for each criteria.

FEMAP\v111\nastranhelp\NXNastran\nast\misc\doc\docs\en_US\tdoc\pdf\User.pdf

Thank You:

That is what I wanted to hear, that for a given criteria, they each use the same way of calculating it. It is just that each software company seems to want to use their own nomenclature for various features, commands, etc. and sometimes it gets confusing.
