Outside/inside of surfaces in Ideas 8 1

Does anyone know why the surfaces I get from surface by boundary/sweep turn "inside-out"? They're dark (inside) on what I want to be the outside, and when my model gets a bit complicated, it's hard to make any sense of the shaded model.. Can I set a surface's "outside" side manually?

The shading is controlled by which way the Surface normals are pointing.

If you form a closed solid from your surfaces the system will allign all the normals.

Alternatively select Hardware Backlighting to be on under:
Shaded Options
Hardware Support

That way it doesn't matter which way the normals are pointing both sides of the surface will be lit to the same brightness.
 
Berit,

Make sure you have a close loop when you're sweeping. When you see the "inside out" surfaces in Ideas, it's an indication that you have open edges.

If you have to work with open surfaces, you can do as RTD said and turn on hardware backlighting. This will allow you to view the model as if it's a solid instead of open.
