I'm an ME, but at my company, I'm the individual developing the P&IDs. At this time, we don't have an I&C Engineer on staff, so I need a little help in how to show particular functions on our P&IDs. Are systems are pretty simple. Is there any online resources that I can go to where I can find some typical drawings for various functions? Some of the processes we typically use are:

pH Control: Injecting CO2 to control pH using pH probe and pH controller
Pacing Chemical Injection (Flocculant or Coagulant) from a Magnetic Flowmeter
Turning on/off Pumps based on High Liquid Level in a storage tank
setting off alarms on High Liquid (or High, High) Level in a storage tank
showing Variable Frequency Drive on Pump or Mixer motors

Thank you.

While not free online, buy a copy (or join ISA for free copies) of ISA 5.1 "Instrument Symbols and Identification". It is the standard for P&ID symbols, although many companies have their own as well.

ISA 5.3 Graphic "Symbols for Distributed Control/Shared Display Instrumentation, Logic and Computer Systems" will also help (has some examples).

If you need an I&C Engineer on staff, PM me....I'm starting to look for my next adventure.
