Hey fellas,
If a welder is qualified using a P1 material base metal, is he also qualified to weld on P 45 material? If i'm reading QW-423.1 correctly he is. Thanks a bunch

The short answer is yes. Filler ( F # )is an essential variable though.
For instance you can qualify a welder using F4x on P1 test plates to qualify him as a welder on P4x material.

Thanks a bunch weldtek! The welder is qualified with P1 to P1 with an F # 6 and the WPS for the P 45 material also requires a F # 6, so that's good. The weld procedures also shows the A #. The A numbers are different. QW-404.5 is not too clear on which numbers qualify for which numbers. Any thoughts on this?

m3brunof,
I'm not sure which process your welder will be using, but, QW350 lists the essential variables for welder qualification for the common processes. I suggest you review those applicable to the process you have in mind.
You'll note that QW404.5 is not an essential variable for welder qualification.
