Hello all,
Does anyone have experience or advise on how to properly design/model the P3G polygon profile for torque transmitting shafts? I did the GOOGLE thing and found 2 places that sell software regarding this but I would like to be able to experiement for a while before spending any $$$. There must be a method to the madness behind the 3 lobe design and a relationship between the diameters and the size of the lobes.

Thanks in advance,
BB

Hello Laik,
That paper is great and exactly what I was looking for. Not sure how you found it but I'm glad you did. I think I went 25 pages deep on the Google search for P3G and I did not see it. STAR 4 you.

Thanks

Hello BodyBagger
Thank you for the star, I'm glad I helped you. I tried various combinations of words: polygon, shaft, curve, P3G etc. etc.

Hi BB,

I am working in Solidworks and I am trying to create a P3G shaft and hub system. Would you be interested in sharing any of your solidworks files?

Thanks

Hi 64gto,
We have put this project on the back burner for a while as other projects have become hotter. We are still in the data gathering stage and will have to pick up talks with some machining houses again when this comes back online. No solid models have been made yet.

What is your application, if you can tell me? We are planning on using this design for shafting in some hydraulicly operated hand tools.
