I am making a research about pack carburizing low alloy 0,4C steel. i want to try different conditions for getting more information and compare them. i've searched as best as i can but most of the articles are not interested in an old fashion technology like pack carburizing.

briefly, i'm looking for articles or books that contain information-research about pack carburizing of steel

thanks.

0,4% Carbon seems to me to be high for effective carburization to take place. A lower carbon steel would be preferred.

Chocolates, men, coffee: are somethings liked better rich!!
(noticed in a coffee shop)

I agree with arunmrao. Usually .30%C is the highest I will deal with.

"old fashioned technology" ?? In my first metallurgy course , in high school 1960 !!!, we did some pack carburizing ! It is still used in the gun making industry where it's decorative [ color case hardening] more than practical.Charcoal and bone and some organic material such as pieces of leather are used.

thanks for all advise folks. bu i still couldn't find anything related with my research.

ASM HANDBOOK Volume 4 Heat Treating has an article "Pack Carburizing" in the 1991 edition. Older editions probably have more than this one.
