I need to improve the uplift resistance of an isolated pad footing. Does anybody know of some good, practical methods for doing that? This was what I could think of:

1. Make foundation bigger and heavier.
2. Make foundation deeper (more soil on top).
3. Attach to friction piles (seems extreme for small building).
4. Attach to other foundtions with grade beams (seems to make for complicated design of supporting members).

If anybody knows a better/easier way, I'd love to hear about it.

I would try first 1, then 4.

4 is not unlike "centering beams" and people shouldn't be amazed by what results. If excessive, botth 2 or 3 would work, sure, but 3 is more engineered and better if there are other piles present in the building, otherwise 1 and 2 are more or less the same with different geometry.

I would go with bigger and deeper. Like the saying goes, deeper is cheaper. It's easier to construct a massive block of concrete than to have gradebeams running all over the place.
