Painted into corner by millimeters

I'm working in multi-unit assemblies, inch and mm parts. Assembly is in Inch. Need to wave link geometry into a mm part, but cannot set it as the work part.

Whats the work around?

Make a new higher level assy with the units set to millimeters, then assemble the whole mixed-units assy into it.

Of course, now you will not be able to make any part with units other than millimeters the work part.
