Painting stainless steel tanks

Hi we are constructing new ss tanks
According to specs we should pickle the tank and then paint it
My question is if the full tank pickled is there a need to sandblast sa2.5 and paint the tank as there is discussion between us and client regarding this point

It's hard to say what the intent was. It sounds like they are using a spec for carbon steel coatings and applying them to a stainless tank. You may want to consult with the coatings manufacturer and see if the specification matches up to their recommendations. It would be kind of unusual to line or coat a stainless steel tank, though.
On the older carbon steel tank specs, they would specify pickling, and that was a shop operation prior to shop priming, not a field operation. IE, just dip the plates in the pickling bath as part of the plate processing.

Do they spec a coating? Best to talk to a reputable coating supplier.

If the owner's specification requires abrasive blasting, AND the paint datasheet requires abrasive blasting, then it becomes reasonably clear.

Is it possible that the painted SS tank is part of an attempt to defeat CUI ? (corrosion under insulation)
