Panel Board installation

Hello again,

I know there is a maximum allowable height for panelboard installations (CSA list 1.7M as the max height for any overcurrent device in a panel).

Is there a minimum allowable height?

I would assume, at least here in the US, one would possibly have to comply with ADA accessibility requirements.

ADA has nothing to do with panelboards.

Look at it this way, if there were a minimum height requirement, you would not be able to any switchboards on floor!!

If you can have floor mounted switchboards, why not panelboard mounted on wall but at floor level!

This does not preclude use of professionalism or 'common sense' though!!

CE 26-402.2 states that the panel board must be "installed as high as possible", but no higher than 1.7m to the highest handle.

They want them around eye level when possible.

As an aside here in Canada, for "barrier-free design" CE suggests consulting building codes for mounting heights.

I think you are really asking for the minimum and maximum mounting heights for equipment to be accessed by someone in a wheelchair. These dimension depend on if the person can approach the device from the front or from the side while in the chair. From the guidelines: in a chair with front approach: 15" minimum, 48" maximum; in a chair with side approach: 9" minimum, 54" maximum. But please check these out. You can access the info at:
