Hi,
When defining element/property type there is check box for "Parabolic element". Whether I check this or not, I have to choose "midside nodes" on/off when I'm generating the mesh. If midside nodes are on, Femap will generate parabolic elements and if midside nodes are off I get linear elements. My guestion is: What is the meaning of that check box in the element/property type window? Does it affect something I'm not noticing?
Another guestion is accuracy of linear vs. parabolic elements. I know if the mesh size is same, then parabolic element gives more accurate result for example cylindrical surface because it represent orginal geometry better. Parabolic elements gives more accurate result but require more calculation time. But so does reducing element size. So can I get the same result when I go linear to parabolic or just reducing element size? Or is there cases that I have to use parabolic elements? Does some code (ASME VIII, EN13445) give any rules?
