Parameter Import

Pro/GURUS,

Is there a way to quickly create parameters in Pro/E parts/assemblies by importing the names and values? Right now I have an evolving list of parameters in a MS Excel spreadsheet. I am using version 2001 on a Windows 2000 Pro OS.

Hello,

Do you mean you wish to change D1, D2 etc to Parameter names or have you already changed D1 etc to paramter names and you now wish to change the values?

If the former then no I can't see a way.

If the latter then there is a way of creating a text file from a spreadsheet and then read this file into the part.
I am about to go home know, and await confirmation of which method you require.

Thanks for the reply. I actually have a blank Pro/E part that I want to use to maintain all of the parameters for a project (these will be centrally controlled and documented in a spreadsheet). There will be no geometry in this part. I will be creating several "skeleton" parts where the first feature is an inheritance feature of the "parameter" part. The datum (skeleton) geometry uses these parameters through relations. There will also be assemblies that are collections of the skeleton parts.

Some of the parameters are driving (I input the values) and others are driven through calculations, optimization studies, etc. Many driven dimensions may not be calculated in the "parameter" part but in the subordinate parts and assemblies.

Ideally, I would like to have the spreadsheet manage all of the parameters but will give up on this vision if it proves too difficult to implement.

Matthew,

You should use LAYOUT function of Pro/E. There you can control all the parameters you will need in your model later.

Then, you must assign the layout to the parts (or assemblies) and in this way, the parameters from Layout are transfered to the parts (or assemblies).

Some relations must be needed in parts to link the geometry dimensions to the parameters tranfered.

Hi Matthew,

You can add these to your Startpart (inlbs_part_solid.prt) or Startassy (inlbs_asm_design.asm), these are located "proe2001\templates". Open these files and add the parameters you want and save. Check to make sure that there is not .prt.1 or .asm.1, if so rename to remove .1 If you are using Intralink you have to designate them by checking the box.
