Parametric conversion from SolidWorks/SolidEdge to ProE

Hello,

This may be a repeat question, but I am relatively new here.

We use a contract manufacturer that uses SolidWorks/SolidEdge whereas my company uses ProE. As part of design documentation requirement, complete part model data needs to be at my company location as well. This means that importing 'dumb' solids like *.stp or *.igs files isn't really an option. Looking around, there are firms that convert these, but for that an extensive non-disclosure agreement would be needed. Is there a direct software for purchase for this parametric conversion?

Ideally it would be a software that my company can get a seat(s) of and convert without sending out data.

Thanks

The only way to get parametric models of your parts into Wildfire from SolidEdge/SolidWorks is to remodel them in Wildfire.
Thereom Solutions is the only company that I know of that may have a 'translator'. What they really do is decompose the original model and then build a new model in Wildfire based on the features that their software was been able to detect.

I'd like to interject the point that SolidWorks has a nifty "feature recognition" tool now, so when you import a step or iges, etc. it should ask you "do you want to run the feature recognition tool?" If you select "yes" it will run through the part and attempt to create a feature tree based on what it assumes is the most efficient modeling procedure.

Of course, the critics will get all fired up about this... it's relatively new and is only a good starting point for basic geometry. I think it's part of SW2010 and beyond.

**EDIT**

I don't think ProE has figured this one out yet. But here's hoping!

Pro/E has a FRT that works just about as well as the Salidworks one. Which is to say, if you have really simple prismatic parts you will get a parametric part with a dimensioning scheme that is nothing like the original & you will have to redefine every feature to get what you want saving you exactly nothing over completely remodeling from scratch.

Enginerd9 ... FeatureWorks was introduced in SW98. It has come a fair ways since then ... but still has a way to go.

Apparently, if you have a valid licence of SW2009 (or earlier) and WF5, WF5 will import a SW part with features.
