Now I could obviously use two separate attributes, but is there a way that an attribute can contain a control character (carriage return / line feed) to wrap into a two line annotation ?

Phillpd,

there is another way you can get this to work. Instead of adding in a normal note and linking it to the attribute, I have found that you can insert a tabular note and do the same thing, giving you more options.

Firstly, add the tabular note. I generally delete all the excess rows and columns, until I am left with 1 cell. You can then hide the border of that cell. Next, you double click the cell, and type in the value of the attribute you wish to use eg. <W@DB_PART_DESC>

Next, right-click on the cell to edit it's "Cell Style". There is a tab called "Fit Methods" and from here you can select to wrap text/auto size row/autosize text/autosize column etc.
