Hi all,

I have a compression coil spring in an assembly. In the spring .CATPart file I have 3 solid bodies: 1) coil in free length 2) coil as assembled 3) coil fully compressed. In my assembly drawing, I want to have different views where I can show the coil spring in different states. How can I do that (without locking the views)?

Make 3 seperate catparts, then insert all 3 into your main assembly. Or make a spring product with all 3 catparts, then insert this product into your main assemby.

I would have the as assembled state spring visible and hide the other two at the tree level.

Create a two scenes within your main assembly for the other two spring conditions. Now you can link any of the views to a scene, what is visible in the scene will be visible in your view. Scenes do not work well for multi body catparts, that is why I suggest the 3 catparts.

RMB and look for modify links, then switch back to part and choose a body you want. update a view.

Rickyt,

I cannot have 3 parts (3 .CATPart files) because our PLM system allows 1 file for 1 part (1 part number).

Jenial,

Would Modify Links work for an assembly also? Let's say, in one view, I want to show the spring in assembly state together with other components in the assembly. Can I select the body I want in the spring part and other components?? When I try it, I can only select the component in the assembly, it won't let me choose the body inside that component.

Hi,

While you generate the view click the front view icon...then select the body ( bodies ) you want and generate the view.

Tarator,

i don't think this will work with assy. it's working with multi bodies parts. in assembly i use overload properties.
i hate hide show when i'm in drawing

JeniaL,

Does Overload Properties let you use choose different bodies in one part??

overload properties works only with assy. actually it's a PITA to work with multi bodies parts in drawing. seems like lock view is the way to go

Thank you all... I guess I'll keep hiding bodies and locking views.
