Part families: A set of values picks suitable parts

Hello!

I have an assembly which is made up of a set of parts with varying dimensions depending on some assembly variables (length, height, width etc.). I have made these standard parts part families. Is it possible to enter these values somewhere and the model picks the suitable parts from every part family? It would seem waste of time to "manually pick" every part from the part families.

Thanks in advance

I think you need to explain this again,
When you add a part family, ( without a "Krx" file" ) adding the template , not one of the members, you will see a "not so stylish" menu, doing what i read you ask for.

Quite many years ago, NX implemented the" Krx files", allowing you to customize the user interface on that specific part family, such that you can select the different member values and filter down the list of possible choices.

John Baker posted a way to do this with part attributes, If I can find the thread I'll post it. The method in the thread does not use part families, and I use this method myself as it has some virtues over part families.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for the replies. I´ll need to be more specific with what I would like to do.

I would like to fill in length, width, height etc in only one place (some wizard or form or something) and according to that it chooses the correct parts automatically from the different part families. In the examples that you posted I would still have to choose every part separately by entering the values for each part. Have any of you got experience with something similar?

Thanks for your help!

Hi,
PTS is the powerfull solution, but it's very expensive.
You can try the following method:
1) Add interpart expression for each part family at the top level assembly
2) Change some values
3) Then use the button update part family
