Is anyone here running tubesheet calculations according to the new Part UHX? What software are you using?

How do your results for required tubesheet thicknesses differ from those obtaining running the calculations per TEMA? Clearly, the UHX calculations are much more involved.

Any other comments are welcome.

Thanks,

-Christine

White paper that explains some differences at ASME.

Also try.

Review Code Case 2429.

If your AIA is HSBCT,check the web site. Good info.

I have two customers who have started designing to UHX. Longhand and spreadsheets. Remember there will probably be some errata coming.

ASME Pressure Vessel Technical Chapter Meeting
October 8, 2003 (Wednesday) Meeting Notice
Program: Design rules for Shell & tube Heat exchangers per new Part UHX for ASME,
Section VIII, Div. - 1 (2003 Addenda)
The 2003 Addenda to Section VIII, Division 1 includes a new Part UHX for Shell-
and-Tube Heat Exchangers. Part UHX may be used starting July 1, 2003 and becomes
mandatory January 1, 2004.
This presentation will review the significant aspects of Part UHX with the intent of
providing the following information:
1) Explain the basis of the tubesheet design rules
2) Discuss the differences between TEMA and UHX requirements
3) Explain the significance of the calculated stresses in UHX
4) Describe the method for determining the ligament efficiency
5) Explain how the rules can be used to optimize the tubesheet design
6) Discuss in-service implications for existing heat exchangers
A question and answer session will allow the participants to address particular
requirements not addressed in the presentation.

I'm just beginning to use the part UHX for tubesheet, while I've always use the formulas from TEMA, can You confirm if is there a code case that allow me not to use it (not mandatory?)

GIGI72-

Code Case 2429 allows TEMA design rules to be used instead of UHX-11 thru UHX-14 and UHX-20.1 thru UHX-20.3. It will expire 1 Jan 2005.

Check with the jurisdiction where the exchanger will be installed to ensure that the Code Case is accepted. Some jurisdictions are very liberal with Code Case applications, some are more stringent. Code Case 2429 was accepted for use in California a few weeks ago.

ThanK You very much jte, consider that we are located in italy and we mostly product for outside of USA, for this reason we are quite sure, if our AI accept this. Can You e-mail me this code case?(directly to my address luigi.guzzi@flovex.it)
