I have a partial section view in a drawing that I would like to make a projection view. (no section) I am not able to modify the section sketch to be outside of the part geometry. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I have no problem doing this with SW05.

Are you getting an error message?

How are you trying to place the view?

I dont get an error message. The section line will only move about .250" in either direction but then stops.

OK, now I'm confused. I thought you were trying to create a projected view from a partial section view.

Why are you trying to move the section line?

I already have the section view. I am trying to modify that view to be simply a projection view. I thought I would just move the section line to the out side of the part to do it. But no luck yet.

aaahhh ... just clued in!

The section line is probably constrained in some way to the parts geometry. Click the line and end points (seperately) to see the constraints.

Could you not just delete the section line & create a regular projected view?

Do you have any sketch relations on your section line which prevent you from moving it?

Not sure if this will work anyway - I've never tried it. Is it possible to actually get a view with the section line outside the part?

dgowans ... Yes it is possible. That's bsically what an Auxilliary View is.

The only constraint I see is the "vertical". But that should prevent me from moving it x-y. Yes you can put a section line out of the part and get a view. I have done it before.

I'll have to remember that..... I've done aux views before, but never by modifying a section view.

I would have expected the "section" view to crap out if the section line didn't intersect the model. Probably because I used I-DEAS for a number of years and that's most definitely what happened in such a situation.

I always make a partial projection view by first making a partial section view and then chaning it. Perhaps my first question should have been: How do I make a partial projection view without first making a section?

When placing the section line, select the Partial View option in the View Manager.

If you want a partial projection view that is not a section, just make a projection view (auxiliary in SW terminology) and then crop it.

... or a crop a regular projection view & add a section line.

Crop is what I was looking for. Thanks.
