Hello everyone,

We send metalworked 17-4ph s.s out to passivation as per AMS2700 Method 1, Type 2, Class 3. Since these parts will go on airborne equipment, they need to be inspected in house before assembly. My questions how can I inspect passivation? some research showed me that I could do the copper sulphate test (iron will show up in pink). Will this test leave any dis-colouration or stains on the passivated part? Will it affect the o/all thickness or irregularity in thickness? Because I would still like to use the part or sample inspection size in a production unit?

How can I relate this test to the method, type and class specified on AMS standards? Did also find a tool for about $3k (too expensive).

What about ferroxyl tests?

Thanks in advance,

V.
