I work with MSC.Patran 2005 and and MD Nastran as a solver on Windows XP. Can anybody tell me how to specify/change the output directory in Patran for jobs submitted to Nastran (.f06, .bdf, .xdb files). In my case it's always written to ~\MSC.Patran\bin. I find it quite unlogically and would prefer to keep it always in the same directory as the Patran database file (.db).

Thanks in advance!!

I assumed you start NASTRAN Or PATRAN from the links in your Destop. If you change your properties of this icons with the right button of the mouse, you could change your Default directory. I have a spanish Windows and this line appears as "INICAR EN".

Other way is in EXECUTE of the the start menu, write "CMD" and appears a MS-DOS console. With Ms-Dos commands, go to the working directory and write "NASTRAN" or "PATRAN". Check that the NASTRAN and PATRAN directories are included in the "path" of windows.

in patran, you change the running directory, and you get to open and make bdf and all sorts of things in that directory, but the nastran results are always produced in the directory where you had the bdf file..

Hi Iesbad2 and JakeLiv,

thank you very much for your answers!! I expected it is possible to do this inside of Patran and didn't think about this option.

The point is that I open Patran sometimes from the desktop, the Windows start menu or in the working directory. Then I got confused why the output was written somewhere. Now it's clear.
