Hello, I am looking for some helpful advice having to do with a couple 'hidden' or potentially going away commands in NX6. They are Pattern, and Macro.

We have been using Patterns here since 1994 (apparently), and have kept the original naming the same so that each time a part catches a revision the Updated Format automatically populates the newly saved revision. Also, we have Macros saved off to add patterns into new files, and these too have worked for quite some time.

Now, or shortly with NX6, I am wondering: What is the best way to handle inserting Formats on New Drawings and having old ones update without macros and patterns seeing as they are potentially going away?

Thanks for your time, any suggestions?

Who told you they were going away?

I would switch from a macro to a Journal.

From what I've seen, neither Macros nor Patterns are going to go away anytime soon. Granted, we're working on a replacement for Patterns, but that's still only an R&D project and won't be seen in the product for a couple of releases yet and even then, there'll be a transition period. As for Macros, while Journaling is what we recommend all new customers to use, there are no plans whatsoever to drop support.

Therefore, if your current processes depend on Macros and/or Patterns, you will be able to continue using them for at least the next couple of years and perhaps longer.

Thanks for the replies. Good to know that Macros and Patterns aren't going away anytime soon.

I did try to convert my Pattern-Adding Macros to Journal files, but I was unsuccessful. They appear to run without error, but nothing happens. If you have any comments to share on creating Journals in NX6 that Add Patterns I would love to hear them.

Thanks Again,
