Hello,

I want to create a pattern of 20 rings (extruded feature) where each ring is smaller than the next one, but shares the same center.

How can this be done without having to create each ring individually?

I figured it out. In sketch task, create a linear pattern of 20 lines. Then create a revolve feature with two-sided offset using the sketch to create the 20 rings.

The NX 8 Pattern Feature should have no problem producing this. post an example and i/we can give it a try.

Offset curve will work, also. It works no matter what shape "ring" you are using. In the attached example, the offset curves show up as individual feature, but were created in one step by setting the number of copies to 5. Then a single extrude creates the grooves.

mmauldin, that's great! I didn't realize the Offset curve command could create copies. Although perhaps using the Offset curve command in the sketch task environment is better to reduce the clutter in the part navigator.

Here's three simple examples of NX8 patterns.
I noted that if i wanted to change a sketch dimension when patterning an extruded feature, i had to make the sketch internal to the Extrude. - Then the sketch can no longer be external to the extrude.

Thanks, Tomas, for showing how to create rings with the pattern feature! The great advantage with this method is that in some cases you don't need to create a sketch at all if the seed extrude feature is using curves from existing geometry.
