I am having difficulty patterning an assembly cut in SolidWorks 2007 SP3.1. I have a multi-part assembly that is machined after welding so modeling the cuts as features of the assembly represents the correct modeling approach. When I can't seem to select the feature for patterning; SolidWorks is only looking for a component to pattern. A search of this site and Google did not uncover a solution.

Is there a setting to allow for this to occur or is this operation simply not allowed?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Matthew Ian Loew

This doesn't specifically pertain to your issue at hand, however it is something to consider for future work. You may want to consider modeling your welded "assemblies" in the context of a single part using multibodies. This is basically how the solidworks weldment functionality approches the problem. I haven't used the weldment tools, but I do currently model welded assemblies as a single multibody part. I don't know if this will work with your designs, but it is something to consider.
