Patterns not updating

I am working in NX5 creating template parts and I have an issue with using patterns for title blocks.

For the most part, the patterns work fine. If I change the pattern layout it does update any other part that has the pattern in it. The problem arises with automatic text such as <w@$sh_sheet_number>, or <w@$sh_sheet_scale_numerator>. The automatic text will not update, unless I do a
format->pattern->expand pattern. I do not want to do this, because it will break the link to the pattern template. Does anyone know why automatic text will not update correctly?

You added the 'automatic text' to the original Pattern file, correct? When you do that the text is linked to that Part file and not the file the Pattern has been added to, your Drawing template file, since it's only 'referenced' by that file. However, after you 'expand' it, then the text 'moves' to your Drawing file where it can now update. What you need to do is place your 'automatic text' in the Template file ALONG with the Pattern, but not as PART of the Pattern.

For drawing templates copy the method used in the templates used with your NX distribution. Then if you want to use a pattern then the template files would call the pattern but contain the automatic text, partlists or tables and views that you may wish to edit later overlaid to the drawing format in their correct locations relative to the title blocks. A little more complex to set up initially but very convenient once working properly.
