I'm doing my research on MSE wall (Highway project) for Masters degree.

My questions are as follows:
Is there any criteria about the tolerance of pavement settlement paved on top of MSE wall?
Is there any criteria about the tolerance of settlment of foundation soil under MSE wall?

I read through the retaining wall section of AASHTO Specifications and FHWA manual (FHWA-NHI-00-043) but I was not able to find any criteria about them.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Settlement tolerance would be a function of what the highway authority would accept and the worse case would be approaching rigid bridge abutments. Gently undulations might not be a concern - but point this out to them before construction - they can always make up such undulations in routine mill and replace mainteance.
As for the settlement of the ground, I have experienced more than 800mm of settlement during construction of MSE walls. See some other threads in this or similar groups. Also you may wish to contact RE Company - they have a brochure that talks of settlements - use of slip joints, etc.
