PC pumps for salt water and natural gas condensate alternatively

Hello All,

I was wondering if i need to flow salt water and natural gas condensate (oil) alternativley from the progressing cavity pump, what are the basic design criteria i need to worry about besides NPSHa?

1) I have made sure that i have at least 2ft more NPSHa compared to NPSHr for the worst case scenario.
2) How about the material of stator? I also think i need to get HNBR (Hydrogenated nitirle) stator compared to nitirle stator because the HNBR is more heat resistant. The reason i chose HNBR is because if there is blocked outlet scenario then the pump can heat up. Am i thinking right?

Anything else i need to worry about?

Could you post some basic information, for example flow, pressure, salt concentration, etc.
 
Your system doesn't sound good to me. For any positive displacement pump, of which progressing cavity is one, you need to incorporate full flow relief systems if the outlet further down becomes blocked. Failure to do so will seriously damage your pump and it could stall at high pressure. Relief systems which just re-circulate around the pump can heat up over time, which is a design consideration and maybe the relief line needs to go back to the main supply or tank or you incorporate a temperature alarm or trip.

The key issue for me is power requirement at the worst case, which is the water case for the same flow rate.

Progessing cavity pumps want to pump at a fixed flow rate with variable head.

Their USP is the ability to pump with solids of a certain size and hence often used in sludge . dirty water, fluids with stones and small rocks.

your pump vendor will look at the two conditions and choose materials suitable for the worst case, probably the seawater/salt water.
