Hello Forum,

We are manufacturing vessels to PD 5500 Cat II. Our weld procedures are qualified to ASME IX; however, PD 5500:2018+A1:2018 states:

"Approval testing of weld procedures shall be conducted, recorded and reported in accordance with BS EN ISO 15614-2017, Level 2, or BS EN ISO 15614-8 as appropriate".

Has anybody dealt with a similar issue in the past? We have manufactured PD 5500 vessels previously using ASME IX procedures (and it hasn't been picked up by our client or a third party inspector).

Thanks,

Recommended for you

PD 5500 5.2.2…………..in cases where the manufacturer can furnish
proof of previously authenticated tests and results on the same type of joint and
material within the permitted variables of BS EN ISO 15614-1 or
BS EN ISO 15614-8, he is not required to perform any further tests.

Is clear this condition in your proposal?
what say the contract?

Do these vessels need to comply with the PED ?
If so, ASME procedures are fine but additional testing is required to align with BS EN ISO 15614-1
Cheers,
