We have a problem with PDMWorks. I created an assy dwg. I checked it in to the vault, everything is ok. Checked out a few times, did some changes, everything is ok. The problem is now another designer needs to do a change. He 'opened' it from the vault, it asked if he wants to over-ride his local copy, he clicked 'yes'. The changes that I previously had done are not there. They show up on his preview, but not the dwg or assy. After he closes and does not save it...I open it, over-ride my local copy and the changes are there! We tried logging in as the same account, but the same problem! No one seems to have an answer (We are working on seperate pc's, his Win 2000 NT, mine is Win XP PRof.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

When you open a drawing from PDMWorks, you need to make sure that you grab all the referenced models as well. The safest way is select the "As-built" button, and then select all the components. This will ensure that you get all the versions of the models for that particular drawing revision. A green arrow next to the model also indicates that the vault version is newer than the version on the local drive.

Your collegue may have had an older version of the model on his local drive, and the drawing automatically pointed to that.

I could elaborate further if you need it, but this should get you on the right track.

Good luck!

I have seen this happen before. Make sure that in the "open", dialog box that the setting "latest versions" is checked and not "as built". PDMWorks defaults to "as built" for some reason. You only use that setting if you are bringing up an older version of the model.
Right click in the pdmworks vault view and select pdmworks options. The defaults can be changed there.

In the "open" dialog box, right click in the box with the files listing. select "newer" or "all" to get the latest version.

Generally you want to get the latest version, but each situation is unique. ctoper was refering to a drawing revision which should be pulled as "as-built" IMO.

If parts of the model are being worked on by others, yes, you want the latest version. This is all situation specific though.

As for default settings, our system default is set to get the latest, not the "as-built". If your default setting is an annoyance, talk to your system admin or reset your personal settings.

Another way is from PDMWorks, you can go in your directory(local), select a file and with the second button of your mouse, you can select Update from Vault or Update All from Vault. This is helpul if you are working on an assembly and someone else change a part in your assembly, you just update the file(part) locally to match the one in PDMWorks.
